My Tangled Beginnings

As long as I can remember, I have considered myself to be a crafty person. I tend to be fairly impulsive and wide ranging in my interests. Over the years I have cross stitched, crocheted, quilted, quilled, stamped, and created countless smaller projects. I plan on have "throwback" pictures to each post so I don't overload my feed with older works.

I was first introduced to Zentangle by the art therapist at my work in the Summer of 2013. I was drawing a repeating pattern in my altered book during a training at work to keep my mind engaged, the art therapist looked at my work, and told me I had created a zentangle.

I went to zentangle.com and was unsure. I did not have confidence in my ability to draw. The examples on the website seemed fantastical and far beyond my abilities. Thankfully I bought the zentangle kit anyway to learn more.

Fast forward to the present, I am a freshly Certified Zentangle Teacher and eager to pass on some knowledge. I fully believe the many and varied positive effects of the zentangle method such as improved self-esteem and increased focus. I have noticed my increased ability to cope with frustration, especially in tasks I find less than enjoyable such as the endless and usually tedious paperwork at my workplace.

I am motivated to share my work with you. I hope that you may to be inspired to take a risk and try something new, even if it is not creating zentangles. Or return to something you enjoy but haven't made time for. I hope you have something that makes your burden lighter.

The zentangles in this blog are some of my firsts.

Throwback picture of the week: My first completed cross stitch project I gave to Jason, my husband, for our first Valentine's day.
